Toxic masculinity is a term used to describe certain behaviors and attitudes that are traditionally considered masculine, yet are unhealthy and destructive to both individuals and society. These behaviors and attitudes can range from aggression, unhealthy competitiveness, sexism, and emotional suppression which can have serious implications for mental health. Toxic masculinity does not imply that masculinity is bad.
For men, toxic masculinity often leads to feelings of shame, insecurity, and worthlessness. These feelings can manifest in various ways, such as depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. Additionally, men who feel pressure to conform to traditional masculine norms may be more likely to engage in dangerous or risky behaviors, such as using drugs or alcohol.
Furthermore, toxic masculinity can have a negative impact on relationships. Men who embrace traditional masculine roles may be less likely to communicate openly with their partners, leading to feelings of isolation and disconnection. Men may also feel pressure to act in a certain way in order to be accepted by their peers, leading to feelings of insecurity and pressure to perform.
It is important to recognize that toxic masculinity is not inherent in all men, and that it is possible to challenge and break down these harmful social norms. It is also important to note that mental health problems can affect anyone, regardless of gender or identity. If you are feeling overwhelmed or experiencing any mental health issues, please seek help from a professional.

How to get support…
Toxic masculinity can be a tricky issue to address, but there are many helpful resources available to those looking for support. Seek out professional counseling or therapy to explore the root causes of toxic masculinity and learn how to manage it in a healthy manner.
Try looking for support groups, both online and in-person, to talk with others who may be facing similar struggles.
Additionally, read books and articles about toxic masculinity, and consider taking workshops or classes that focus on understanding and managing it.
Lastly, focus on self-care and make sure to take breaks when needed.
Taking care of yourself is the best way to manage any difficult emotions that arise.
